Extension of Global Health PhD Scholarship Programme

The University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht)’s board of directors approved the extension of the Global Health Support PhD programme.

The Global Health PhD Scholarship programme started in 2011 with the ambition to enable highly talented health professionals from low- and middle-income countries to obtain a PhD at Utrecht University. In addition, the programme aims to support capacity building in PhD students’ home institutions and support research collaboration between PhD students’ home institutions and the UMC Utrecht.

15 PhD scholarships since 2011
A total of 17 PhD students have been admitted to the programme since 2011. Scholarship recipients have come from Indonesia (6), Ghana (5), Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Chad/Cameroon, China, Malysia and Suriname. Over 55 papers have been co-authored since the programme’s inception. Nearly all (6 out of 7) of scholarship holders who enrolled between 2011/12 successfully defended their PhD by 2016.
