Theoretical epidemiological courses (34 ECTS)

Within the courses, 21 ECTS are core courses for all students, consisting of 7 basic epidemiology and statistical courses.
The other 13 ECTS are devoted to an individual programme of specialisation courses in the field of:
- Clinical Epidemiology
- Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases
- Medical Statistics
- Occupational & Environmental Epidemiology
- Pharmacoepidemiology
- Veterinary Epidemiology.
The individual programme depends on the epidemiological specialisation of choice and personal preferences.
Courses are usually taught in the form of interactive lectures combined with computer exercises in smaller work groups. Time is also reserved for e-learning / self study.

Research project (56 ECTS)
The research project is conducted within a research theme of one of the participating institutes and supervised by a faculty staff member. Research projects cover a wide variety of topics such as human or veterinary infectious disease, cardiovascular disease, oncology, pharmacology, occupational health risks and many more topics of clinical or public health relevance. Optionally, part of the research project can be conducted at another institute or company outside Utrecht University, always under supervision of a Utrecht University staff member. The research project is finished by an oral presentation and by writing a scientific paper, which is submitted to an international journal.

There are possibilities for a reduction of this tuition fee. Employees within the UMC Utrecht, Julius Center, Utrecht University, Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) and the department of pharmaco-epidemiology of the Utrecht University are eligible for a substantial reduction. Please  us for more information about the tuition fees and reductions. Students are allowed to be registred for maximally 5 years.
